Larry Larson’s 1966 Chevy Nova with twin-turbo power from Mike Moran is legendary right now. Not only did the car earn the 2008 title of Fastest Street Car in America from Hot Rod magazine, but Larry repeated that feat today with an overall win at Drag Week 2009.
Not happy just with averaging 7-second elapsed times in the quarter mile ever day of five days while also participating in a 1,200-mile road trip, and not happy with running Drag Week’s fastest-ever pass of 7.25 at 199 on Wednesday, Larry was determined to also get the first 200-mph pass of Drag Week. He did that on Day 5 of the event. After running a safe pass to secure his win, Larry set the car on kill, tuned up the clutch, and put down a 7.30 at 204 mph. That’s a feat no one would have ever considered just five years ago when Drag Week started.
