Watch This Speed Week Video From The Dry Lake Racers Australia Lake Gairdner Meet Last Weekend

Lake Gairdner is Australia’s version of Bonneville. In fact it looks a lot like Bonneville depending on which way the camera is pointing. But if you thought Bonneville was big, then Lake Gairdner is freakin’ huge. Rather than being interrupted by “Floating Mountain”, the surface at Lake Gairdner is relatively uninterrupted and is almost 100 miles long and 30 miles wide. In some places the salt crust is nearly 4 feet thick. In comparison though, Bonneville is right in the middle of town. Lake Gairdner is almost 100 miles from anywhere and far more work to get to and to survive at during Speed Week. In this video you’ll see racing, driving across the salt, and more. Check it out and let us know what you think. See how many American racers you can spot in the video as well, since several have been making the trip over the years. Both Valerie Thompson and the Target 550 crew were on hand!
