Flood Watch: Chevy Set to Release Special Edition Camaros Every Six Months

It is being reported that Chevy plans on releasing “special edition” Camaros just about every six months starting after the 2012 ZL-1 hits the streets. This seems to be an attempt to catch the Mustang’s roughly 3.7 million special editions currently available…oops, 300 more just came out in the time you read that. Chevy is really going to have to step on it to catch up! In typical marketing speak, Chevy reps were all excited about the prospect of all these models.

Al Oppenheiser, the Camaro’s chief engineer said, “That is the beauty of the Camaro. It has so much of a rich heritage that we can put together the right combination of content. We have a lot of rich names to choose from.”

Indeed they do. We’re on our knees begging for the Berlinetta model to show up with a wacky little screen mounted in the front between the seats. Bonus points will be awarded if it malfunctions seconds after the new owner takes the keys like the ones in the 1980s did. How about the “dark days” edition that’ll have a 150hp 305 in it with a garish tape stripe package. The Crossfire edition will have a retro-cool fuel injection system on it that will look pretty boss but run like a misfiring Yugo. Reportedly, a stockpile of 2.8L V6 engines has been located for the, “Sorry it sucked” edition that will emulate the tepid performance of the mid-1980s six popper years.

Joking aside, supposedly one of the first “specials” will be tied directly to the Transformers movie. No, we said that we weren’t joking, remember. We don’t recall a “transformers” name in the “rich heritage” that Mr. Oppenheiser spoke of, but hey, it is a brave new world out there.

Keep your eyes peeled for the BangShift edition. Each body panel will be misaligned and a different color. Power will come from a turbocharged GMC Jimmy 6 and it’ll have a Lenco transmission backed by an ancient Olds rear end that has been welded into a ghetto spool. Call your local dealer for pricing.
