BangShift member Zombie289 posted this wild video on our forum section yesterday. It shows an Australian racer, competing in the Targa Wrest Point missing a pretty high stakes corner and launching headlong off a cliff and into a body of water. Incredibly, it appears another car made the exact same mistake and the flying Ford misses an already wrecked racer by mere feet on impact. If the Ford driver had struck the car already in the water, this could have been a fatal wreck.
The Targa Wrest point is a staged rally that is run on all asphalt roads around the city of Hobart. There are classes for all types of cars from vintage iron, like this unfortunate machine, all the way up to modern exotic cars. We show lots of crazy racing wrecks on the blog, but it is rare to see someone literally fly a car off a cliff.
From what we have been able to ascertain, the driver made it though this one, OK…although we assume his fire suit suffered a fatal soiling.
Thanks to Zombie289 for the tip!
Wow, a Perana Capri too… these were V8 Capri’s made in South Africa, quite the tarmac rally weapon…there’s a few that race in the Classic Adelaide (South Australia) too..
I’m wondering how hard it is to get life or health insurance if you say your occupation is rally car driver……
