Ford Announces Base Pricing of 2013 GT500 – Shockingly Matches the Camaro ZL1

Ford has released the base pricing for the 2013 Mustang GT500 and the 200+ mph, 650hp beast will available to the general public for the base price of $54,995. While that is not chump change, we’ll reference again the fact that this car is capable of running over 200mph, territory normally reserved for foreign sports cars who have names that end in vowels and cost six to eight times as much. The motor is a 5.8L blown plant and while the 650hp number has been bandied about, we don’t know the torque figure but expect that one to be quite large as well. A manual transmission is standard equipment.

While that $54,995 gets you in the door, Ford has a bunch of different optional equipment, if you so desire and if you wallet didn’t go into full nuke meltdown from the initial purchase price. For starters you can spring $3,500 beans for the SVT performance package which includes a Torsen differential, 19 inch wheels up front, 20s in the back, Bilstein adjustable shocks, and different rear springs. There are also some interior upgrades that we really don’t car anything about.

Tacking on another $2,000 in the interior will earn you HD radio, dual zone climate control, satellite radio, and voice activated navigation. Oh, you can add an additional $1500 on top of that for special Recaro seats to swaddle your backside. With that you have a roughly $63,000 Mustang. Sure that sounds a little weird, but again, THE CAR CAN GO 200 MPH!

Even if you are not into Fords, you need to admit that this is awesome. A sub-$60,000 car that can wipe the floor with all the douche-tastic hyper expensive foreign stuff that isn’t named Corvette. That’s cool. (Not a shot at Corvettes there, but it has been the lone American car to really stand up to the exotics).

Two BangShift thumbs up to Ford for having the nuts to actually build this car and unleash it on the public!
