(By Tom Lohnes) – Possibly the most hyped vehicle this year, the new Ford Bronco was just about to hit markets next month. Problem is, Ford isn’t quite ready for that to happen, so production has received a rather long delay until late Summer of 2021. COVID-19 related supplier delays have forced the company to make this hard decision. Simply put, they just can get enough parts fast enough for their satisfaction.
The C8 Corvette which was 2019’s most popular car had about a two month production delay because the factory went on strike and the first batch sold like hotcakes. The Bronco, in some ways is a more sensible and less expensive vehicle and is still expected to be a sales hit. With over 30,000 orders for models ranging from the sub-$30,000 base model to the near-$70,000 First edition, it’s safe to say the Bronco will have a great first year back.
The problem with this delay, however, is that Jeep is rolling out a slew of new Wrangler variants, ranging from a plug-in hybrid to a 392 V8 powered monster. With an extra 8 or 9 months, Jeep will likely attract some waiting Bronco buyers to the Wrangler on the selling point that you can actually get one. Other than that, the Bronco really tops the jeep in every category except horsepower, where Jeep has a considerable 140 hp lead.
So, if you had a Bronco order, you have to wait basically 3 quarters of a year for it, or you can go right to your local Jeep dealership and get any wrangler you want. Your choice.
first one was officially sold / delivered today at Bill Brown Ford in Livonia Michigan
