Our pal Barry Rabotnick is one of 4 or 5 guys in the country who you can refer to as FE Ford gurus. He also happens to be a freak for Ford historical race and engine data. So when someone in the know handed him a DVD that had Ford Dyno facility 8mm film transferred onto it showing the 1967 427 Lemans engine program, you can imagine he was pretty excited. And who did he send the link to that video once it found it’s way onto YouTube? That’s right baby, Barry has been a BangShifter for years, and we so appreciate the tip on this one.
Watch this video. It’s awesome. Even though this was the ’60’s when computers were not operating dynos, the guys at Ford had an ultra trick system that would load the engine and allow it to shift as if it were making laps at LeMans. In the video it talks about how many times Ford actually ran that race in testing before the car was even on site. It’s amazing.
This is cool, i remember seeing a video of a dyno at Porsche where they simulated this, except they also measured g-force, this is impressive 50 years earlier. Well, i guess nothing is new under the sun…
Ford wrote a blink check to beat Ferrari at Le Mans. Cool video.
I’ve designed, built and maintained a couple of dyno’s for some big names. Four posters too!
This is by far the coolest thing Ive seen.
I wish I would have seen this thirty years ago.
