The saga of former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was one that unfolded a few years ago. In fact, we covered what were a daily string of insane stories the moment he was suspended from NASCAR for failing a drug test. He went back and forth with the organization publicly regarding his own innocence, their drug policy, etc. Lawyers got involved and he seemed to be planning a go for broke strategy that would have gotten really nasty and dirty if the courts had allowed it to happen. Between all the the various allegations and other strife that was hitting the news every day, weird things started to happen, strange public statement were made, and the ground seemed to start eroding out from under Mayfield’s case and public persona. Then, disaster struck the good ship Mayfield when authorities raided his property and charged him with being in possession of stolen equipment from construction sites and race teams.
At the time the wheels fell of the wagon for Mayfield, he was completing construction on a massive 12,000 square foot house that sat on a vast plot of land in North Carolina. After losing his ride, engaging in the ugly fight with NASCAR and effectively ending any possible chance of racing professionally again, he and his wife lost the house to foreclosure in November of 2012. Like a kick in the gut when you’re down, local firefighters used the house for a training drill in December and burned it down to the foundation. You have to admit, that one hurt.
Mayfield was given a suspended 45-day sentence so he won’t see the inside of a jail but he will be on probation for 18 months and he’ll have to pay some $88,000 to the victims whose property he had at his home.
We’re not sure what happens next. Does Mayfield do what he needs to do to get back into racing somehow? Does he simply fade off into history as a guy who ran 433 NASCAR races, had five wins, and ended his career in the ugliest fashion virtually anyone in NASCAR history has? We’ll keep our ears on and our eyes open for more Mayfield news. It would be an incredible story if he could manage to work his way back into the racing world. To this day, he claims that he has never done meth and the tests given by NASCAR were flawed or otherwise tainted, giving him the false positive.

Wow…….just wow!
Agreed!
Aint that nice ! Once again the Celebrity gets off scot free ( shades of Claudine Longet *) whereas if this was any of the rest of us … they’d be locking us up and tossing the keys down the rabbit hole
Yes sirree …. the US of A’s Justice system … where if you have enough money … and enough celebrity cache … you really can get away with murder
* There once was a girl named Longet
Who came up to Aspen to play
And along came a ‘ Spider ‘
Who laid down beside her
And she blew the poor ba$tard away
What a long string of bad life choices this guy has. But kudo’s to his wife for still being there.
I think his old lady split on him a year or so ago if I remember correctly. He’s the automotive equivalent of Ray Munson(from Kingpin”, minus the loss of a hand)…career went right in the shithouse from just one bad decision.
jeeeeeebus. Don’t do drugs kids.
The house burning is a pretty rough “Get the f* out of town” gesture. WOW.
On the other hand, no jail time? Aint it amazing what 88,000.00 will do for keeping you out of jail. Why does this sound like a spoiled brat story?
And don’t drive Toyotas, kids.
Probation is not unusual for a non-violent first offender with little demonstrated propensity or predisposition to future crime. Otherwise, get ready to fund a lot more prison cells.
Since his NASCAR career is down the shitter, he now has time to become Lindsey Lohan’s driver.
Maybe he can load up whats left of his empire and go to Oklahoma and be on Street Outlaws?
Dang it don’t say stuff like this on the internet and give people ideas.
True! TV is getting bad enough.
Can anyone say movie of the week?
Too bad he can’t just fade away quietly. He was busted, couldn’t prove otherwise, then kept making an ass of himself. Now the spiral he created follows him.
Fall from grace because of bad choices.
I live in NC and this was a pretty big deal on the news, but most of the racing community and the locals knew everything way before the news. He’s like a white Rick James “meth is a helluva drug”
He got hammered when you compare it to NASCAR’s biggest owner when you compare the punishment. Money fixes almost anything.
Does he still have a driver’s license?
Does he have any guns?
