Friday Excuse to Go Home Early and Drink: Georgia Dealer Gets Crap For Telling it Like it Is

Well this is enough to make you hang your head and shed a tear. Savannah, Georgia, Ford dealer O.C Welch decided to go after import cars and import car buyers in a radio ad and is now being called a racist.

During the ad, he said that Japanese cars are “rice ready” not “road ready.” You figure it out, because we can’t. He goes onto call out Wal-Mart Shoppers and people who buy imported stuff and the damage that it has done/is doing to the economy.

Welch also turns his guns at the politicians slamming them for “slinging mud and spending our tax dollars.”

While the method is admittedly weird, we applaud the guy for actually having the guts to take a stand and stick his chin out on issues that no one else seems to want to talk about. It’s a bummer that his message will get watered down by the “ride” comment. We call Japanese cars rice all the time and certainly don’t consider ourselves to be racist–hell, we belonged to a company that had a site called RiceBoyTV for cripes sakes–but it doesn’t play that well in the face of his larger mesage.

Welch said that he’s not pulling the ad off the air and that he has sold some cars to customer specifically saying the ad drove them to shop at his dealership. Political Correctness is a class all of us here at FJY.com failed miserably, looks like O.C. Welch did too.

Here’s a video interview with O.C Welch. The “rice” comment was a blunder, but we like this guy.
