Gale Banks’ Story of Exploring the Subways of Los Angeles as a Kid

Today you know Gale Banks as the owner of the company that carries his name, a dealer of diesel and turbo speed. He’s also a land speed racer and the subject of a recent 50-year tribute at the NHRA Museum. But, as a kid, he must have already have had an adventurous nature, as this ink will take you to his story from 1962 of exploring an abandoned Los Angeles subway tunnel that was built in the ’20s.

Who knew that LA even has subways? Here’s a link to the entire history of them with more photos and maps of the place Banks wrote about.

Thanks to Dave Wallace for the tip.
