Gearhead Destination: The Studebaker National Museum

Gearhead Destination: The Studebaker National Museum

OK kids, if you are going on the 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour you have absolutely no excuse to not check this place out as the tour is running through South Bend, Indiana, the ancestral home of Studebaker and the home of the Studebaker National Museum, this week’s Gearhead Destination.

The museum houses all kinds of Studebaker-related stuff, from the days of the Studebaker Bros. building covered wagons to the last vehicle produced by the company in 1966. This is a trip through the history of a great company as well as a look at the evolution of transportation in America.

For hardcore Studeophiles, the museum also houses the Studebaker Archive, containing all the records of Stude and Packard. There are written records dating back all the way into the 1850s along with numerous advertising materials, rare and unpublished photos, and historical data.

Even if you’re not on the Power Tour but you’re heading through South Bend make sure to stop and pay homage to one of the great American brand names of the past.

See the museum’s web site here.
