The Detroit Free Press tackled a question that we’ve been considering for a while: Which is in better shape, GM or Chrysler? Both companies were busted flat, saved by the government, and have had major leadership changes at the top. So who’s the best of the worst?

The story falls along the lines that you’d expect. GM is seen as being in the better position today because of product and how their cars are hitting the “lists” with regularity. Safety, powertrain, and styling, are all reborn over at GM. Chrysler is years away from a new model car and its current crop of “old designs” are not selling worth a damn. We think Chrysler is the company teetering closest to the brink.
