Good Read: Car and Driver Interviews Monster Truck Icon Dennis Anderson

Dennis Anderson is a true American success story. From the most humble of beginnings he has become the most famous guy in modern monster truck racing and the face of the Grave Digger brand that has come to dominate virtually every aspect of the sport. Starting out with a truck cobbled together from spare parts scavenged off farm equipment, he has been a part of monster truck racing’s myriad of technical improvements and innovations.

Like Jungle Jim Liberman back in drag racing’s heyday, Anderson’s Grave Digger trucks appear at mutiple places at once, with other drivers wheeling them. People come to see the truck and even though the man from Kill Devil Hills is not behind the wheel, seeing the truck is show enough for them.

Anderson’s newest deal is a television show with Survivor’s “Boston Rob” that is running on the history channel. The point of the show is to travel around the world in 80 days using 80 different methods of transportation. According to the story, those methods include an ostrich and a blimp. Kind of interesting for a dude who had never left the United States prior to filming!

Anderson is a cool guy and a genuine man. Both Chad and I have dealt with him over the years here at BangShift and he’s always been super accomodating and cool to us. This interview is neat and it sheds some light into Anderson’s past and how far he has come.
