Great Man Doing Great Things: Darrell Gywnn Foundation Featured on CNN

Darrell Gywnn was a guy that we looked at as a hero when we were young drag racing fans back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He was a kid in his early 20s and he was one of the strongest rising stars in the Fuel dragster ranks. Hell, he was trading blows with Don Garlits for an NHRA championship back in 1986.

An exhibition pass at England’s Santa Pod raceway ended with Gwynn wrecking his dragster, and he was paralyzed and lost one of his arms in the wreckage. Instead of allowing the situation to own him, he took control, started the Darrell Gwynn foundation, and has been working very hard to provide a level of care that some poeple would never get otherwise.

Gywnn’s foundation provides custom electric wheel chairs to people who for whatever reason would otherwise not be able to afford or acquire such a vital and necessary piece of equipment.

Our pal Dave Wallace tipped us off to some great video of a piece that CNN recently did on Darrell and the foundation. It’s great work being done by a very inspirational man.
