It has come to light that NASCAR racer Brad Kaselowski, a non-qualifier for the “Chase,” was warned by NASCAR on Sunday to essentially back off of racing Juan Pablo Montoya so hard during last weekend’s race in Kansas. Montoya is involved in the “Chase”. Pretty amazing stuff if you ask us.

It’s not like tight racing makes for good tv. It’s not like tight racing can actually draw fans into a sport that is bleeding them or maybe draw more viewers to its television broadcasts which are suffering a drop in ratings as well. Nope, wouldn’t want that to happen.
Even more amazing is the fact that race officials would ever tell a driver how to behave on the track, assuming that he is not doing something patently unsafe. We’re wishing we could have been in the room when the official that radioed down to Kaselowski’s crew chief actually made the decision to tell him to chill out. Kaselowski’s sponsors would probably be thrilled to know that NASCAR officials wanted to cost them television time and exposure as well. This is on of the few lose-lose-lose situations we can remember. To his credit, Kaselowski told them to shove it and ran the race hard and clean like a good racer would.
