Joie Chitwood III has led an interesting life. He was a part of the family stunt show from the age of 5 right through his college years, he has overseen the creation of race tracks, run the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and currently leads the Daytona International Speedway. His path saw some benefit from the family name, but that only takes a man so far. He’s held big jobs for a long time, that’s a sign of talent.
We found it interesting to read about his history with the stunt show and how he went from zipping around in a mini-Corvette to smashing head first through flaming walls while laying on the hood of a car. He said that the flaming walls stuff was the best preparation for a job in motorsports that anyone can have.
Chitwood has some recent bad memories to overcome at Daytona. The infamous “pothole” incident from this year’s Daytona 500 is fresh in the minds of race fans, but he is gunning to make them forget.
