It was a trip to Monaco, a Jay-Z video, and a night of no sleep that ultimately led Danica Patrick to sign on with Dale Jr.’s NASCAR team. She will run a limited schedule in the Nationwide series next season, and no matter if she’s good or bad, she will dominate the headlines.
SI.com’s Brant James penned a great piece on exactly how this whole thing went down and how the two racers, who spend more time in the spotlight than nearly any others, by choice or not, are very similar in makeup.
Patrick’s former team owner Bobby Rahal was quoted in the story as saying, “I have no question she’ll be able to drive a stock car around.” We don’t either, but will she be able to do it in a quick enough fashion to win some races or compile top ten finishes? Her training starts next week at an ARCA test session. Her race schedule has not been announced as of yet. Tony Eury Jr. will be the chief of her racing program.
