Hauling Ass: Bugatti Runs Nearly 270mph on Closed Course

Love it or hate the multi-million dollar Bugatti Veyron will go down in history as one of, if not the baddest ass production car ever created. Just days ago, a Veyron Super Sport, which sports a motor that makes 1,200hp ran 268mph on a VW test track in Germany. That’s freaking impressive.

Before you go telling us that guys do this at Bonneville all the time with vehicles that cost a fraction of the Veyron, we’d say that those vehicles woudn’t be capable of making the 270mph blast and then cruising across the country directly afterwards.

Is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport BangShift.com approved? The thing has 1200hp, of course it is! The engine in the car is a 480ci W-16 that is forced fed by four turbochargers and mega-huge intercoolers.

The car takes the record away from American Jerod Shelby who drove one of his Shelby SuperCars Ultimate Aero vehicles to a top speed of 256mph on a closed off public road in Washington state. Given a nice test facility like the VW track, he may have a fighting chance to get the record back, although we think that the Bugatti guys could just wick up the boost and go even faster.

Production versions of the car will be limited to 257mph according to Bugatti in order to protect the tires. Good call there because 260mph would just be stupid.
