We have seen some pretty dumb CraigsList ads over the years but this one beats all. We got tipped off to this one by Texas photog Charles Wickam who somehow stumbled upon it. He denied searching for a four door or diesel powered classic Mustang and we almost believe him, so this was some sort of unhappy accident. The ad was on the Austin, Texas CL and as we have come to know Austin is known for its “unique” populace. We think that may or may not mean the place is full of weirdos, but we do know that there is one person who wants to buy a freaking diesel powered, four door, first generation Mustang. This sounds like something that would have been made in a communist eastern bloc country.
The best part about this ad is the fact that the guy wants to hand a mechanic a pile of parts to have them stick this thing together for them. Sounds like the mechanic is going to have the easy job. The poor bastard at the body shop that has to make the car a four door is really in for it.
Here’s the ad:
I would like a WVO/Diesel powered Mustang or similiar car. I know these aren’t really out there, so I’m interested in buying all the parts and having a mechanic or shop put it together for me.
I haven’t bought a project car yet, but I would like 4-door Mustang 1964-66, or something similiar.
I was looking to use a Volkswagen 1.9L TurboDiesel and Transmission.
I want to build the car with modern brakes, suspension, a Banks Power (Or similar) system, and internal electronics.
Please let me know if you, or someone you know might be interested in working on this project.
Oh, I’ll do it but it aint gonna be cheap or soon.
Four door Mustang – it’s called a Falcon.
4BT will be easier to find
TDI requires the dash / gauges, etc. for PATS
There was a Ranchero here with a 3.3liter Nissan / Scout diesel , guy said it was getting 40mpg.
I’ve never looked for any of this crap either….
Funny thing is, I’ve had my four door Dart mistaken for a Mustang by some non-car people. Similar roofline to the coupe, I guess, but that’s about it.
Screw the project…….I want what he’s smoking

I’ve had people ID my 4 door Falcon as a Nova…
4 door Mustang – that’s a good one.
Had the Dart mistaken for a Nova too – but at least that’s a bit more understandable!
It’ll have to be front-wheel drive, or rear engine, if he wants to use that powertrain!
