Our pal Darr Hawthrone of MoparMax (and other fine web publications) shot us a heads up about an awesome piece that he just published showing a collection of never-before-seen Dick Landy photos. In them, Dandy Dick is racing his 1965 Dodge Coronet altered-wheelbase car at Fontana in 1965. These photos show everything from the car being towed in behind a Dodge wagon of the same vintage to Landy pulling the front end three feet in the air. There are some candids in there as well that peg the cool meter on 11.
Landy was a driving force in the Mopar performance movement of the 1960s and 1970s developing all kinds of neat parts like twin plug per cylinder heads, among a stack of others. Never far from his trademark (unlit) cigar, these photos show Landy in his larger-than-life, square jawed prime.
Like too many, Landy has passed onto the big strip in the sky, but in these photos, he’ll remain forever young. Running his Dodge at WOT with the front end in the air and a four-speed handle suffering the brunt of his bear-like grip.
These photos are totally bad ass!
