Both Chad and I are escaping the surly bonds of home this weekend to bring you event coverage from two of the coldest places in the country. He’s leaving sunny SoCal to hit the Detroit Autorama, home of the Ridler award, and the showcase for all the best hot rods, muscle car, and custom action the Motor City has to offer. I’m heading due north with two buddies to Fairlee, Vermont, to cover the Goldenchild Nationals, a snowmobile drag race held on a frozen lake. Stop by either place and say hello!
Chad did an amazing job with coverage from the Grand National Roadster Show so you should be expecting big stuff from BangShift.com at this show as well. Check back this evening to see some of the first and (we’re braggin’) the best show photos you’ll see anywhere on the Internet.
As for me, I’ll be leaving in the morning darkness on Saturday to meet up with Denis LeBlanc and Jay Spinella of Action Racing Photos to trek north in Denis’s motorhome. That’s right kids, we’re staying on a frozen lake, in a motorhome. That’s BangShift.com approved travel right there.
The event we’ll be covering, The Goldenchild Nationals, is a heads-up, no holds barred, eighth-mile snowmobile drag race held on ice. There is an unlimited class that will pit turbocharged 500hp sleds against one another. Elapsed times will fall in the low 4-second range in the eighth. This stuff is no foolin’ and the photo you see above came from last year’s race. Wretched horsepower excess in an environment where you don’t even need a cooler to keep your beer cold? Sign us up!
Stay tuned to the blog. It’s going to be a wild weekend!
