Armco guardrails scare the crap out of us. They were used at drag strips for years and caused the unnecessary injury of many drivers and unnecessary destruction of many race cars. Armco-style steel guardrails are still the most widely used type of barrier on highways across the country, and the evidence of the bad junk that can happen when tangling with them is clear when you see what happened to this Audi R8.

We know none of the details aside from what we read in the post that contains the photos we link to below, but according to that post the driver lived through this, although he did lose his legs.

It is astounding to know that anyone survived. The steel guardrail literally went through the car like a kabob skewer and by all accounts it looks like the driver should be dead. This is the type of destruction that can, and regularly does, occur when cars tangle with this type of “safety” barrier. It is stunning, and not in a good way.
