HOT STREAK: THE CAMARO OUTSELLS THE MUSTANG FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

HOT STREAK: THE CAMARO OUTSELLS THE MUSTANG FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

With only a couple days left in the year, we can say with 100% confidence that the Camaro will once again outsell the Mustang to claim the title of America’s favorite pony car. For all the people who bitch and moan that the Camaro is too heavy, has crappy visibility, looks goofy, and is equipped with too many options, your opinion is apparently wrong. 89,000 Camaros rolled off dealer lots in 2011 up about 8,000 units from 2010.

Back at the Ford labs, those guys are cooking up their 650hp, 200 mph Mustang to steal the halo car spotlight from the Camaro ZL1, but that thing is at least a year off. We’re not sure what’s coming down the pipe next year for the Mustang but if recent history is a guide, it isn’t going to stop the march of the Camaro in the sales war. We can see losing the market during the first year of the Camaro’s return, but to fall into a legit rut is tough.

As we have said in the past, it is a great thing that there is a pony car war to talk about. The Ford/Chevy rivarly is one of the greatest running feuds in automotive history and we hope it manages to sustain for 100 years to come. Although, it seems that if that is the case, the Camaro will be leading the Mustang for most of those years.

Good luck in 2012 Ford! (It appears you are going to need it)

Only because people haven’t found out about the horrible mechanical failures befalling anyone buying a Camaro. Biggest mistake I’ve made in 20 years.
