“I’m Not Asking, I’m Opening”: Summit Motorsports Park Will Have A 2020 Season

“I’m Not Asking, I’m Opening”: Summit Motorsports Park Will Have A 2020 Season

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of weeks, the world feels like it has ground to a halt. The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed the pause button on a lot of things. There are tracks that have completely erased the 2020 racing season altogether. Shows, races, events and get-togethers have been shoved to at least the end of April and potentially longer. There’s a lot of reasons, on both sides of the argument, for the actions that have been going on over the last few weeks. Business being closed hurt people, without question. There’s nothing to sell, there’s nobody there to buy. Things are becoming stagnant, people are getting restless, and if there isn’t a switch soon you are going to see some very restless behavior, to say the least.

Bill Bader has had enough. And he’s put it out for the world to know: Summit Motorsports Park will open in 2020, come hell or high water. There’s nothing more that we can say here that he doesn’t say himself, so hit the play button below and you can hear his statement in full.

Good for him. We need more people like this. Live free or die, Liberty or death. That’s what this country is based on or has everyone forgot….

John Starks Hero of the Battle of Bennington Vt 8/16/ 1770 wrote “live Free…” for a speech in 1809 he never made. Patrick Henry fought in the revolution then fought AGAINST the Constitution. Poor arguements, but please stay safe.

If it only affected the idiots then have at it. When it affects other people, then let’s not.

Suck it up , put down the financial spread sheet and read about pandemics. Open too early and Spanish Flu of 1918 will look like a common cold.

Typical covidiot. The sooner you stop social distancing the longer we are going to be dealing with this. Worried about 2020? Stop social distancing and you will have to worry about 2021..2022.

    1. Nate

Then don’t go? Continue to stay home for the rest of the year if it makes you feel better.

    2. Curtis

Wrong! If you keep social distancing your only putting off the inevitable and the virus will be around longer and be more damaging than you want it to be. Look at several recent news articles, the countries who aren’t using social distancing and the other paranoid tactics are experiencing the same death rates as the U.S.A. What are you expecting people to do, hide in their homes for 18 months? Yeah right! While the economy goes into a major depression, people lose their homes, and 401k’s and other retirement plans are trashed. The death rates are being skewed to make it appear far worse than it is. Follow some of the news on a website called citizen free press and you’ll see your having wool pulled over your eyes.

With the economy being what it is, who is going to be able to pay to race or spectate ? There is no disposable income now and any money is used to keep the wolves away from the door. With the cost of insurance, utilities and pay for employees he’s going to lose money every time he opens the gates.

I always heard that Norwalk was the best track ever–I went to a long weekend race there one time–Sunday evening we are ready to load up after a fantastic race –My receiver was gone–no doubt taken by someone–not easily replaced on Sunday at 6pm I go to the tower Bill Bader Sr hears my problem jumps up says follow me–leads me to a storage building opens the door –there were dozens of towing parts–he says dig in get what you need–I found exactly what it would take to tow home 400 miles–he says on me– sorry for the trouble!
I will never forget that–It confirmed what I had always heard –That family and that crew are the USA! They are 100% Americans hard working , honest, etc
I have to admire and respect the dignity he brought to his argument and I back him and his decisions 100%!
Politics will not save any of us in fact politics will just keep on dividing us
He sees the deal for what it is— and by taking the “high road”, not dragging the politics of division into this, made his statement all the more stronger–
    Made my day to watch!

My reply above was for fellow said Bader’s would lose money every time they opened.

Perhaps the numbers are lower than projected because most are self isolating? There seems to be evidence that one can have no symptoms but are still contagious, do you want them walking around infecting others? If the curve is flattening and it’s decided to open everything back up is that not the same as saying the parachute has slowed our descent, it’s okay to take it off? I completely disagree with his decision. Just my two cents as I self isolate.

  7. Nick Gunner

I find it ironic that Norwalk is the name of a virus that makes people puke and can be contagious for 2 weeks after recovery !

Bill is going to be partaking in a Knock Knock joke.

    Knock Knock

    Bill B “Who’s there?”

    State Police

    Bill B “State Police who?”

    (Door gets kicked in)

Bill B “Oww, these cuffs are too tight!”

I have to say that I think we should tough it out and gives ourselves best chance of getting past this without a backslide BUT I was saying in my other post that he laid out his view the best he could without dragging politics in it so much–he made a real case for his views–I do not agree with opening –but I understand that he has to put up a fight and not just crash and burn–If he does get locked up closed well then he put up a good fight and his partners and racers will give him credit for that–and ..if he reopens–it blows up and there is a big backslide–well then he will just have to be responsible and face that ( I sure hope that does not happen)
Tough times–really tough times for business men that have given all the blood they have to build something positive
The politicians get to Washington and grab it all out of our pockets–they don’t understand the first thing about us out here –so I can understand his position just on that one fact alone– the thing is he didn’t kick and scream a bunch of junk–he laid it out as plain as possible and looked like a man doing it
So for that alone–we should all respect him no matter what happens.

Well after listening to this I can say its about the money! It has nothing to do about ones health or anyone’s safety from this vinous. Open it up maybe they will come but will they be safe from the spread time will tell. Funny how the few churches that decided to ignore group gathers ended up with individuals sick with vinous and some dying from it. Not to mention the nursing homes where the spread is rather frightening this is serious stuff.

Stay at home and starve or go to work and risk a disease only slightly worse than the flu. Hmmmm. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

He offers a service of entertainment. You are responsible for your own health. If you are concerned about getting sick, don’t go. No one will force you to go to a race.

I agree with him- people have to get back to work- keep voluntary measures in place, but get back to living.

Why is civil disobedience only deemed acceptable when it is for some liberal cause and not this one? Suggest/provide masks, some hand dispensers, remind the folks to use common sense and let it happen. Our society is in the ICU.

I think he is absolutely right i look forward to spring nationals every year at the end of june and come hell or high water my ass will be there if it is still on beer and burnouts if my money helps him then thats great i need this track to stay open.

  14. 6POINT6

Sounds like he foolishly poured too much money into a shrinking hobby and now wants people to risk their health and family members health to make up for his own bad financial decisions. He should be talking to his state government for help and not shooting his mouth off on the internet. Lets listen to the experts.

You need to ensure that the masters that you serve agree with your plans Bill. If the public, sanctioning bodies, sponsors and racers don\’t think this is the right thing to do, you will be left alone, high and dry. Perhaps with damaged relationships.

  16. Tharris1959

It\’s about our lives and livelihood. If you want to isolate forever, then do it. Let\’s get on with living folks. This isolation will not save you.
