Interesting Read: A Profile of Top Fuel Racer Antron Brown

For better or for worse, drag racing is the most accessible motorsport in the world. Anything with wheels can run down the strip for glory. While it’s true that top-level competitors need to be more than just great drivers now, more “normal” guys and girls are competing at a high level of competition than in any other realm of racing.

Case in point is Frankie “The Mad Man” Taylor’s world-record-setting pass at the last ADRL race. The man owns a repair shop and he managed to set a world record in a field that included a middle eastern prince whose racing budget could keep a small country afloat for years. Underdog wins are one of our favorite things about the sport. The other is the fact that drag racing is the most humanly diverse motorsport in the world. All cultures and sexes are represented in every level of straight line competition. It has been like that since day one, so it is to a point that no one really cares about it any more. There are no “diversity” programs in drag racing because frankly, they are not necessary.

We found an interesting story about Antron Brown, the hard charging Top Fuel racer on USAToday.com. Aside from some weirdness like, “He’s driving a jet-propelled Toyota Top Fuel Dragster,” the story is pretty cool and Brown does a good job of talking about how a modern professional racer’s life is far more about things off the track than on it.
