Interesting Read: What it Costs A Track To Host An NHRA National Event

We were tipped off to the existence of a document filed with the SEC back in the late 1990’s by Brainderd International Raceway. It is their sanctioning agreement with the NHRA and although it is old, it is an eye opening look at what tracks pay the NHRA to be part of the national event trail.

The contract is a great read if your are a drag racing geek. It outlines what the track owes, when they owe it, and other interesting stuff like a specific section that says the NHRA offers no guarantee or warranty on the profitability of an event.

As we previously mentioned, this is an old agreement, but as far as we know this is the only one that is open for public viewing. For one track to spend more than $612,000 to host a race is mind numbing. Obviously the track is not planning on running the event at a loss, so we can only imagine what the remaining cash pile looks like after all the bills are paid. There must be some dough left for the track, but it can’t be a whole lot.

Imagine how hard the track eats it if there is a rain storm on the weekend of their NHRA National event! Not a business for the weak of stomach!
