Like a drag racing zombie that eats money, hopes, and dreams instead of brains, the AHRA may be coming back again. We were tipped off to the existence of a new AHRA website and on that site are sections for classes, results/stats, etc. After one of the most infamous business failures in modern drag racing history last year that saw the “reformed” organization fall apart like a cheap suit, we find it hard to believe that many people would be jumping at the chance to rejoin the AHRA.
As a quick review, the AHRA had member tracks, dues paying members, and even a Louisiana based HQ. They were hot and heavy on the promotion of a full season of races that featured everything from bracket classes to Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars. They held one event, cancelled a couple others and then basically disappeared. They promised television coverage and the whole works, but essentially ended up broke, leaving race tracks that they sanctioned and members who paid in to join the organization with nothing.
We’re going to pound the phones to see what’s going on behind the scenes with this thing and who is involved. It will be very interesting to see what’s going on and who the people are behind it. Could it be the same group as last year? Did yet another party by the AHRA name?
Like it says on severl sections of the website…Stay Tuned
Thanks for the tip, Mark!
