The amount of speculation on how the United Kingdom would take to fully legal, imported Ford Mustangs was immediate grounds for speculation. Some said that they simply wouldn’t move like Ford hoped they would, that they were too big, too American, and too thirsty. Others speculated that the mass majority would only buy the EcoBoost 2.3L cars simply because it made the most sense. About the only thing anybody could agree on was that most UK buyers would pick the manual transmission.
Well, we were right about one thing. The statistics have come out for how Mustangs have been ordered and the breakdown is quite surprising. The biggest eye-opener is just how much more preferable the 5.0L V8 is over the 2.3L four cylinder. Most everything else isn’t that surprising: red exterior/black interior, mostly coupes, mostly manual transmissions, and mostly well-loaded. The only bigger surprise is the demand: The first pool of 500 cars sold out in 30 seconds.
That isn’t London’s famous fog…that’s a lot of happy Ford fans converting Pirellis into smoke and dust.
Well – we aren’t pussies who would settle for a four cylinder you know old chap!
