Ford’s 5.0L Coyote engine has established itself as a worthy piece on both the street and the strip. Making more than 400hp right out of the factory box, many hot rodders have started swapping cams, bolting on blowers, and shooting them full of nitrous oxide. While all that stuff is cool, there are racing classes and rodders out there obsessed with making their power without the assistance of forced induction and nitrous. Well, JPC Racing has come through for that crowd.
The company is now offering CNC ported 5.0L Coyote heads for customers looking for more power. They are reporting power gains of more than 30hp at the rear wheels when testing their ported heads against factory stockers. That’s a bunch of oomph and for the $1500 price, it is a pretty good deal. Ported heads don’t have a bottle that needs to be refilled or internal parts spinning at ungodly RPMs that can fail. Once their done, you’ve got you horsepower, virtually forever.
We’ll be honest, the cylinder heads on these engines look like some sort of prop from the Terminator movies. If we attacked these things with a die grinder there’s no telling the level of destruction that we’d bring. Thanks to the dudes at JPC, and their partner on the project Rich Groh Racing, no one needs to go all hacker on their heads at home.
Below is the full release from JPC, and below that is a high res shot of the Coyote heads. Check’em.
Coyote 5.0L Stage 1
CNC-Ported Cylinder Heads
Help your Coyote 5.0L engine breath easier with a set of
CNC-ported heads from Justin’s Performance Center (JPC Racing). The CNC-ported
heads are a joint-venture between JPC Racing and Rich Groh Racing (RGR)
Engines. The two powerhouse companies are the driving force behind Team JPC and
its numerous NMRA national championships as well as countless street
performance achievements. The Stage 1 CNC-ported heads increase flow 9-14%
(depends on lift) and utilize OEM valves, valvesprings, and retainers. A
five-angle valve job is standard with all Stage 1 CNC-ported heads. JPC and RGR
completely disassemble the heads, including the valve guides, for maximum
porting during the CNC process. Turn around time is approximately one week as
CNC castings are in stock but are assembled to order. Core exchange is required
or a core charge is added to the final price. The forthcoming JPC Racing Stage
2 and Stage 3 CNC-ported heads have aftermarket over-sized valves, upgraded
valvesprings, and will be available soon. Current retail price for Stage 1
CNC-ported heads is $1,595 with core exchange.
JPC Racing offers wholesale pricing for performance
companies.
The JPC Coyote 5.0L cylinder heads have picked up to 30 rwhp
in most combinations over un-ported heads. More information is available at www.JPCRacing.com

All cylinder head
flow testing was performed with a 92.2mm (3.630-inch) bore, which is the stock
Coyote 5.0L bore size. RGR utilizes a Super-Flow 600 flow bench, 28 inches of
water, and the exhaust ports were measured using a 1-3/4 inch pipe.

stock Coyote heads flow more at 0.200 than the stock two-valve pushrod heads on some factory performance cars did at 0.500.
And it’s better at peak flow that a lot of respected muscle car heads . . . 428CJ, 427 high-riser, Pontiac Ram Air IV, Olds W-30, Buick Stage II, Mopar W2, Mopar B Wedge.
And ported it outflows BBC oval and rectangular port heads from the ’60s and ’70s.
Just think what’ll happen if and when Ford does a DOHC head for the 6.2 Boss.
