Once we heard that there was a combine demo derby at the Central Kansas Free State Fair we were immediately disappointed we weren’t there to see it. Bus demo derbies we have seen, standard derbies we’ve even participated in, but this is truly nuts.
These huge machines are normally the lifeblood of the farm. Without them crops do not get harvested and famers have to sit and watch their money literally rot away on the ground. Apparently, once they are retired from service, there’s not a lot to do with them.
These machines had to be modified per the safety rules in order to compete, just like cars are in a standard derby. There are some classic quotes from the spectators at the event who definitely got their money’s worth seeing these huge vehicles fight to the death.
