We’ve heard stories about Dale Earndardt’s daughter Kelley being one hell of a driver before she moved “upstairs” into a management role. Those stories have been validated by a great USA Today piece that looks at Kelley’s driving career and the circumstances that led to her moving off the track and into the office.
What we found coolest about the story was the fact that Kelley was widely regarded as the best driver among the three racing kids of Dale. She apparently could out-drive Kerry and Dale Jr. on the short tracks of the South.
Kelley has been working with Danica Patrick now that she is part of Dale Jr.’s racing team. By the sounds of the story she’s still a little regretful about walking away from driving. It would be really cool to see her get back out, if only for a few races, and not on the big stage to mix it up with the likes of Milka and Danica.
If she’s got Dale Sr.’s genes, driving a Stock Car is probably about as natural as breathing.
