The car was being sold sans engine, but if you read the fine print, a buyer could have scored an engine for extra cost. The legendary racer from Malvern, PA was in the midst of an incredible season in 1972 that would see him earn $250,000, which was more than any other professional “athlete” in the America outside of Wilt Chamberlain at that time. He was featured in Time magazine for the feat.
