Legal Manuvering Continues in Mayfield Case

There have been some small developments in the saga of NASCAR versus driver Jeremy Mayfield for his alleged use of methamphetamine. Now we’re seeing some interesting stuff starting to happen inside the courtroom as the attorneys on both sides work to try to intimidate each other into quitting before a trial.

Some recent courtroom wrangling between the two sets of attorneys has opened the window a bit for us to peek in and see how the sides are gearing up for battle. In a story filed on Hamptonroads.com, writer Dustin Long reports that Mayfield’s legal team is trying to block some subponeas that NASCAR has filed and at the same time NASCAR is trying to block an affidavit filed by Mayfield’s side that had to do with the questioning of a “doctor” employed by the company that does NASCAR’s drug testing.

As weird and off-the-wall as the out-of-court stuff has been, the in-court action may be just as riveting. The testimony of NASCAR officials and maybe even other racers will be something to watch. Recently we read an interesting piece that seemed to indicate that NASCAR would never stand for a trial as that meant their books could be subponead. That, apparently is not an option for them.
