Loring Timing Association 2010 Meet — Sunday

Loring Timing Association 2010 Meet — Sunday

It’s all over. The 2010 Loring Timing Association’s 2010 LSR meet is in the books. New members of the 200mph club were announced, and the final passes were made. We’d love to give you a breakdown of the runs but communications were a struggle as we wandered the pits and helped wrench on the Hot Rod Camaro.

As the LTA’s site is updated, we’ll provide the info here as well.

The weekend was a smashing success and the only major problem was a curious moose that was wandering way too close to the track. After a couple of “moose downs” we were able to pull it full bore.

We’ll provide more of our personal views and thoughts on the event in a Barnstormin’ column tomorrow, but it is safe to say that this was a fantastic event. Yes, there were little glitches here and there, but the people were awesome, the competitors were fantastic, and the track is a thing of beauty. We’d venture to guess that more than 1,000 spectators showed on Saturday and Sunday. There were viewing areas at the start and at mid-track. The people of Maine were curious and excited to have the event going on in their area.

We can with some certainty that Bob Self managed top speed of the meet in a car with his crazy Ford GT just shy of 220mph and Bill Warner on his turbo ‘Busa went 273mph before the motor decided it had enough.

Other runs of note were the 208mph blast of Gary Beineke in the Bobby Issac K&K Insurance tribute car. The 1,000hp Hemi in that sucker sounds awesome bellowing down the track.

The Hot Rod Camaro did the job, putting Keith Turk, Tonya Turk, and David Freiburger into Loring’s 200mph club. This is six clubs for Keith, the only man on Earth to do that, and four clubs for Tonya and Freiburger, who well may be the only other people in the world to claim that feat as well.

Thanks for all the volunteers who got the race to run as well as it did, and thanks to all the BangShifters out there who said hello and spread good words about the place!
