Lutz Goes Out on Vacation Swinging at Ad Agencies

Bob Lutz has made his presence known in a major way in the marketing department and with GM’s myriad advertising agencies. Apparently at a meeting on July 14th, Lutz panned the recent work of said agencies and left a trail of fear and hurt feelings as he left the meeting for his Caribbean vacation.

Buick got the worst punch to the privates as Lutz took specific aim at them and their recent television ads, panning them, even though they “tested well.” If he’s willing to live life on the wild side and not be tethered to focus groups, there may be hope yet for the slumbering giant that is GM.

Lutz had to swallow some words a few weeks back ragarding his claim that the Pontiac G8 would live on as the Chevy Caprice—a statement that was instantly revered by Fritz Henderson—but apparently he’s not going to be doing any apologizing for advertising campaigns that suck. The bad news is that we can’t think of more than a couple of campaigns in recent years that have not sucked, so let ’em have it Bob.
