BangShift Question Of The Day: Can You Tolerate The Idea Of A Ford “Mach 1” Performance EV SUV?

BangShift Question Of The Day: Can You Tolerate The Idea Of A Ford “Mach 1” Performance EV SUV?

One of the major announcements from Ford, aside from the new Bullitt Mustang (which we totally approve of), the unveiling of the “lost” original GT390 Mustang used in the actual movie, and the unveiling of the Ranger pickup truck was a teaser for something interesting…something called Mach 1. Now, we don’t need to remind you of the Mach 1’s history with Ford. It’s a Mustang trim level that saw use between 1969-1978 and was resurrected for use on 2003 and 2004 Ford Mustangs. The name has a cachet to it and holds the same kind of weight as GT or Cobra. Truth be told, I even dolled-up a 2005 Mustang GT into a Mach 1 myself, something that Ford didn’t do. The goal was to have a dressed-up, sporty variation of the Mustang, and even when it was attached to the Mustang II, it was put on the more sporty models, the V6 (for 1974) and 302 model hatchback cars and lacked the tacked-on bodykit look that the Cobra II and King Cobra got.

But the video teaser that Ford pushed out? Hmmm…an Explorer and a Mustang dive off into a shop that gets struck by lightning and magic occurs. This left some press at the North American International Auto Show with more questions than answers, but Ford themselves have cleared it up: it will be a “high performance battery electric SUV” that will come out of Ford’s Team Edison electric vehicle division.

Ford making a hot-rod SUV that is all EV? It’s something to watch, for sure. Ford calling it Mach 1? Doesn’t sit well with the author personally, and I’m not sure how the faithful will vote. Ford’s got plenty of other names that would suit better: Adrenalin, Tremor, Lightning, etc. What say you, readers?

Possibly more than any other person on earth I HATE when companies reuse old nameplates. Especially when they have NOTHING to do with the original car or concept.

Only if they manage to put the same level of psychosis into it as the AWD Teslas in “Insane” mode. Although given the power source, calling it the new Lightning might have almost been acceptable.

Pretty sure the Mach 1 name is going on the performance hybrid Mustang that Ford previously said was coming in the not too distant future. Not sure about the SUV.

This is even more ridiculous than when Dodge put a wing and a decal on the back of the box panels of one of their trucks……and called it a DAYTONA

Once you Whore out a model name to this extent, it loses any cache it MAY have had, and no one takes it seriously EVER again……..

So when the world’s full of EVs because of all the tree-hugging enviromentalist nazis and its power generating systems are either causing more pollution to keep up with demand for power or crash altogether as they can’t keep up with all those millions of chargers that need feeding leaving us with no power at all we will look back on the days of fossil fuel with fond memories.

Factor in the trillions of dollars lost by oil producing nations whose products are no longer needed causing global financial instability and economic collapse leading to wholesale breakdown of law and order clean air will have come at a cost that could mean the end of the developed world.

So maybe its time to look at producing non-polluting sustainable bio fuel for new and existing vehicles and forgetting electric power altogether!

I’d like to look back (with fond memories) to a time before you started polluting the comments on BS. Do you seriously think the world will collapse into anarchy if vehicles are electrified (hint: it won’t), and you think burning food for power is the right thing to do?

I’d wish they would same the Mach 1 for something more in the lineage. As far as things with electric motors, our Fusion Hybrid hauls ass and saves gas that I can spend on more traditional horse power.

If it has the name mach and electric power, well it just better be faster and better than everything else or the name will be dead to everybody
