We’ve seen some strange headlines here, folks, and this one is right up there with the best of them. 36 year old Luis Motola-Palacio of Grand Island, Nebraska was pulled over in January for driving without his headlights on. As the officer approached the SUV that Motola-Palacio was driving, it became apparent that the truck was full of chickens…in total, 100 chickens, in one makeshift cage in the back of the truck. Out of the 100 chickens, 58 of them had been crushed under the weight of the other birds, and the remainder of the chickens showed signs of stress and mistreatment. Motola-Palacio pled no contest to second-offense drunken driving and to livestock neglect. He will serves his sentence the same time as his prison sentence for an assault that occurred in 2013, where he shot someone in the leg while butchering pigs.
We’re not sure what possibly could have been going through this guy’s mind as he was stuffing chickens into the back of this truck, but this is the same man who shot some dude in the leg with a shotgun during an argument while butchering a pig. Hopefully this fine member of society gets quite the lesson during his state-sponsored time out. Maybe he’ll make a new friend.
