NASCAR’s drug policy has nabbed two more offenders and one of them is Jeremy Mayfield’s ex-brother in law, William Keith. The the other suspended crewman is Matthew Huffstetler, who works for the new NASCAR truck series team of Daisy Ramirez Motorsports. It’s Matt’s lucky day though, as no one is paying attention to him. William Keith owns the limelight on this one.
Keith is one of the “star witnesses” in NASACAR’s legal battle against Mayfield. He gave a desposition where be said that he witnessed Mayfield using meth multiple times in his presence. It has not been released, and probably never will be, as to what drug or substance caused Keith to fail the test.
The other scary thing about Keith’s situation is that he worked for the #38 Front Row Motorsports team in the role of spotter! You know, the guy who watched his driver and helps him make sound decisions on the race track and not jeopardize his race car, health, or that of the racers around him. That’s really not a guy you want all zinged up on drugs on race day.
Mayfield’s defense team, headed by Mark Geragos must be absolutely loving this news. If Keith ever makes it on the witness stand at a potential Mayfield/NASCAR court battle, it’ll be open season for the defense team.
