MILESTONE: FORD SELLS 100,000 ECOBOOST V6 POWERED TRUCKS IN 2011

MILESTONE: FORD SELLS 100,000 ECOBOOST V6 POWERED TRUCKS IN 2011

It sure seems like Ford’s gamble on the twin turbo, V6 EcoBoost engine has paid off. The company crossed a major milestone yesterday with the installation of the 100,000th example of the engine into a Ford truck engine bay. There were lots of detractors when the engine first went public. After all, most previous American turbocharged engine had been warranty machines and lots of bluster without much boost. That seems to be the opposite of what’s happening with the EcoBoost. There have been no recalls to date and the trucks we have driven with this engine are stupid quick (for stock trucks) and get great mileage.

Even more impressive is this feat when you consider that each and every one of those engines was a $900 option. The naturally aspirated V6 is the base engine. Getting your boost on is optional equipment. There have been rumors that GM is working on a similar engine platform to fight head on with the EcoBoost. If Ford can move 100,000 a year there’s got to be something to the idea!

More proof that the turbo revolution ain’t coming…it is HERE!

Wonder what they will go for in the junkyard? I’m not seeing them individually yet.

Kind of surprised there is no Mark and Jim Ford bagdgering in here telling us how they won’t work and don’t sell? ? ? Hmmm. Slackers.
