Monday Moment Of Photo Zen: A Gathering Of Bitchin’ Gassers At The 2013 Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion

Monday Moment Of Photo Zen: A Gathering Of Bitchin’ Gassers At The 2013 Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion

(Photo by Charles Wickam) – If you’re thinking that you missed out on something by not attending the 2013 Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky….well, you did. Thankfully we still have a ton more photos and content to post from the race, but we wanted to run this singular Charles Wickam photo today because it kicks absolute ass and it also serves as bit of a teaser of what will be coming in the weeks and months ahead as we’re going to run stories on virtually every single car in this group shot. This is a collection of racers that call themselves the “Geezer Gassers” and as you can see, they have some of the coolest nostalgia drag iron in the country. The cars range from mild to wild but they all have a few things in common. Straight axles, blowers, bitchin’ paint jobs, and the ability to put a smile on any gearhead’s face about a half mile wide.

If this were a black and white photo it would look like it was taken at the US Nationals in mid-1960s, but it was actually shot less than three days ago. Hey, we’ve got nothing much more to add on this one. Just drink it all in and stay tuned for an awesome series of stories on the cars that make up one of our favorite groups of racers that share a common love for an era in drag racing we all wish we still lived in..the gasser wars!

CHECK OUT THIS AWESOME PHOTO AND LET YOUR MIND WANDER AS YOU OOGLE ALL THE CARS!

For the first time, being called a “geezer gasser” is cool!! Awesome photo and my favorite is closest in the front row! Awesome class, thanks!

Would need to airbrush out the concrete walls and the modern trucks in the background.

….I know there was a lot of Willy’s running back in the day….but I think there’s more now then there ever was back then…..from my personal memory and all the car rags on the news stands, it seems there was a lot more variety of cars….where are the Studebakers and the Chev’s and other GM bodies and the Ford coupes and all the weird little English cars?!!

Being there and seeing all of the Gassers gives the same feeling as it did in 1961 at the Nationals in Indy. This may seem like a lot of cars but in the early 60s there were over 60 cars in each class of B and C Gas.

Oklahoma is in the house with the McLaughlin & Holmes 41 all steel Willys Gasser. Mike and Ken call the Metro area of Oklahoma City home and are fantastic guys! Plus they have a bad to the bone hot rod with a high deck blown Donovan that makes their car scream.

Yep, I wonder how Mr.’s Mike And Kenny got the prime spot in the shoot??? Gotta ask next time I see ’em. ALWAYS put on a show and love being at the track. One correction though…Ken suffers from steel envy a bit. Their bod ain’t made of the metal of which you speak. But gotta spend some with ’em at B.G. on Friday, along with another great show from the ultimate burnout master, The Tikiman hisself…Ron Huegli. Those two cars make any trip to the track worth it!
