It seems as though many car guys are also into history, both of the gearhead hobby and beyond. If that describes you, then you’ll end up wasting lots of hours here at the Los Angeles Public Library Photo Database. If you’re one of the poor saps working this Monday, you can pretty much blow it off by sitting at your desk giving the illusion of labor while hunting through this site.
As you can surmise, the LA Library is not dedicated to automotive stuff, but you can find some great images by searching terms such as racing, auto, Chevrolet, hot rod or hot rodders, and so on. If you’re like us, you’ll be equally rapt just seeking neat old shots of historic places and events from long ago.
Check out this cool shot of a very Dick Kraft-looking rail job from the Herald-Examiner collection, shot in 1953. Note the cool CRA (California Roadster Association) poster in the T at the far right.
