We had never heard of the internet craftsmanship museum until we were tipped off about an amazing page on the site by BangShift.com forum member Joes66Fury2. He urged us to look at the page highlighting the incredible hand made aluminum airplane models made by retired dentist Young C. Park. These aren’t just milled out airplanes, they are painstaking crafted like fullsize planes.
What becomes even more mind blowing to know is that all the controls of the tiny planes actually function. Apparently before 2002, the only people who had ever seen Park’s work were his family and friends. He was invited to a modeling convention and decided to attend. According to the piece we read, he was very nervous to show his work to such a critical audience. Not suprisingly, people there were completely blown away and Park and his planes were a huge hit.
Park has been a modeler all of his life and dreamed of building an aluminum plane when he was a young man. In those days he hadn’t the time, the accumulated skill, or the tools to do the job, but now it has all come together.
Note: In the photo below, take heed of the tiny pilot’s hands. Park milled them, by hand, out of aluminum.
