More Charges Levied Against Jeremy Mayfield

The hits just keep on coming for Jeremy Mayfield. He has now been charged with possession of stolen property and a fourth count of obtaining property by false pretense. These charges are in addition to the other heap that have been piled on over time since Mayfield was suspended from NASCAR and began fighting them legally. Outside of these charges above, he is also facing drug possession charges from the meth that was found on his property during a police raid in November along with other stolen property charges stemming from the same raid.

Believe it or not, we are inching towards the three year mark with this whole story. Mayfield was booted from NASCAR in May of 2009. According to a USA Today story, they tried to contact Mayfield’s attorney and received no calls back, so we’re not sure if he still has the high powered Washington firm on his side or if his situation has moved to the point of a more modest defense team. Only time will tell on that one.

Mayfield’s last hope for his case against NASCAR is hinging on a forthcoming decision from the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, VA where Mayfield appeared last month to argue that his case against NASCAR deserves to be heard. There will certainly be some irony in the air if he wins that appeal but then gets buried on these criminal charges.

As we have been saying for the last three years, stay tuned. We never have any idea about what’s coming next with any of these cases!
