The military has some of the most purpose-driven vehicles in the world. Whether they are fighting vehicles or support trucks, every one has a role that it’s destined to fill. The Buffalo, despite the fact that it looks like a destroyer of worlds, is actually a protection vehicle.
Simply put, the Buffalo is a bombproof truck. Its job is to find and remove land mines, roadside bombs, and other IEDs that would otherwise hurt our fighting guys and women. Everything from its body shape to its big robotic arm aids in the ability of the truck to keep people safe.
We’d sure like to see one with a howitzer on top of it though.
The Buffalo is powered by a 440hp Cat C13 motor backed by a Cat six-speed transmission and a Cushman two-speed transfer case. It sits on a trio of axles rated at 46,000 pounds each. The massive tires are actually run-flat models for the eventuality of taking enemy fire.
The V-shaped hull is a major part of the trucks’ ability to survive mine blasts and other un-nice situations on the road. Lots of topics regarding this truck are off limits and contain classified information.
The GWVR of the truck is 76,000 pounds. It can ford 40 inches of water with no preparation, and far, far more when it is prepped. It runs a 24v electrical system and has an approach angle of 25 degrees and a departure angle of 60 degrees. With all the clearance from the tires this is a non-issue.
