The Charlotte Observer is reporting that NASCAR lawyers filed court papers stating that they have multiple witnesses available to testify that Jeremy Mayfield used meth on many occasions and apparently one of the potential witnesses is a former crew member on Mayfield’s team.
This is the second big announcement made by NASCAR in about as many days. We can view this one of two ways. The first being that NASCAR wants to completely discredit Mayfield in the court of public opinion, and the second it that it’s a bit of a desperation move to lay their cards on the table now and see if they can get Mayfield to fold up and shut up.
Either way, this does not look good for ol’ Jeremy. Here’s the Observer story.
In other news, Mayfield’s civil case he has lodged against NASCAR is set to begin in September…of 2010. There’s a long way to go.
