New 3.7L V6 is the Base Engine for 2011 Mustangs

The Mustang News is reporting that the base engine for the 2011 model year Mustangs will be a 3.7L V6, replacing the ancient and stodgy 4.0L mill that currently fills the engine bay of non-GT Mustangs.

While that’s not incredibly interesting news in itself, it does raise the horsepower level to 273, still short of the Camaro’s 304hp base 3.6L engine.

The V6 that we’re waiting to see is the twin turbo Ecoboost engine. Those are expected to carry a rating somewhere in the mid-300hp range and rumors have suggested that buyers would have a choice of the six popper or the V8 in the GT model.
