New England Area Drag Racers: You Can Run for a Wally This Weekend in Epping!

We wanted to get the word out the drag racers in the New England area that New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire will be running their first ever National Dragster Challenge this Saturday! The event, which awards a very cool and unique pewter “Wally” to winners in the Pro. Super Pro, Street, and Motorcycle categories is the first to ever by run at New England Dragway, which just became an NHRA track this year.

The last person to carry a coveted Wally out the gate at NED did it nearly 20 years ago, back before the track started their long run with IHRA, so you could become a neat footnote in history to be amongst the first group to win the hardware after the track switched to NHRA.

New England Dragway has been undergoing large scale changes in perparation to host an NHRA national event, which we have heard will be happening in the next couple of years, if not 2012, which is a hot rumor floating around. The track will be hosting the first NHRA divisional they’ve had in nearly two decades in July, but some racers in the normal weekly program may not have a car that fits in to a recognized category, so this is their shot at Wally glory according to Track Manager Joe Lombardo, “Not everyone fits into a category that runs at our upcoming NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional Championship Race in July. By entering the National Dragster Challenge they now have a chance to earn one of the most significant awards in drag racing.” He added, “The race takes place in conjunction with the VP Race Fuels ET Series event on June 4. There is no extra charge for entering the event and the purse structure will remain the same as any other VP ET Series event. “This is a great opportunity and benefit provided by NHRA for our racers!”
