Mark Reuss is the new head of GM’s North American operations and you’ll be happy to know that he is a hard core car guy. Reuss previously ran the GM Performance Division and oversaw GM’s Australian wing, Holden. He is now sitting in the hottest seat in America. Failure is not an option and success needs to be virtually immediate.
Reuss is a GM lifer who worked his way up through the system in various engineering and management capacities. Even though he is “from the inside,” we get the feeling that he has the stones to call a spade a spade and make the tough decisions that will need to be made on a daily basis.
He’s going to have to light some colossal fires under people’s bottoms to get things moving at the speed that Ed Whitacre wants them moving at. We wish him luck!
Forbes.com ran a good profile on Reuss that talks about his car guy roots, and his interesting family history with GM.
Here is the news from the Detroit Free Press about all the other recent changes in GM management.
