While pressing our schnoz up against the glass display cases at the SEMA new products showcase we spent more than a couple minutes drooling over the new Pontiac competition stroker kit from Eagle Specialty Products. Offered for both the 400 and 455ci Poncho variants, there are three stroke options. They are 4.25″, 4.35″, and 4.50″. These cranks are no nodular iron jobs, they’re made from 4303 forged steel. Ooga booga!
The cranks are available on their own or in a complete stroker kit that ships with 6.8″ H-beam Eagle rods, Mahle flat top pistons (with rings) and Clevite bearings. Combining this stroker kit with some of the more recently available aftermarket high performance Pontiac cylinder heads would make for a romping, stomping, big block Chevy eating machine. The whole stroker kit has an MSRP of $2093.75. We don’t have the pricing on the individual cranks.
It should be mentioned that the cranks are created using a non-twist style forging, are heat treated, shot peened, and nitrided to increase strength. The journals are all micropolished and a .125″ fillet is used on every journal. because of that fillet narrowed or chamfered bearings must be used. Eagle says that these cranks are good for motors making up to 1500hp.
