The major battle in the fuel injection realm over the last several years has been eliminating the inherent fear that many hot rodder had of switching from their familiar carbs to the more precise and tunable electronic fuel injection systems being offered by aftermarket manufacturers. That battle has largely been won and now the next race is to create systems that are both easy to use and that fit the specific needs of the end user themselves. The mad scientists at FAST understand this and they have been hustling to get some neat products ready for users both on land AND on water. Yes, we said water.
We were happy to recently catch up with the guys from FAST and talk about the new EZ-EFI Marine setup that has been developed for all the boaters out there looking for more efficiency and a more happy engine (or engines) in their boat. The marine market has unique demands that the automotive side does not have so this is totally not a situation where they went to a blue colored control box and called it done. The calibration to help with starting and cold run situation is different, the fact that the equipment itself has been made even more robust to survive the life aquatic, and the availability of specific pieces designed to work with Mercury engines all point to signs of a company doing it the right way.
For land lubbers like us, the big news from FAST has been the addition of the dual quad XFI system for people wanting to use this equipment on top of a blower or tunnel am AND and addition of the XFI Sportsman level system for blow through applications. Capable of supporting 1,000hp and 15psi of boost, it leads the electronic fuel injection league in its ability to swallow that pressurized air coming from your favorite power adder be it a turbo or a centrifugal blower.
Let’s face it, we live in an ever more boosted world and these guys know it. The Sportsman level system gives you the running ability that you want and does not overload you with extras that you may not care to use. The end result is an economical package that is going to handle the needs of LOTS of hot rodders out there that want more tuning capability and more finite ability to manage their boosted combos.
Hey guys, this is cool stuff and you know what’s coming this week. Make it happen. This will be the best Christmas ever!
They must be smart if they have an O2 sensor that can work with H2O flowing past it in the water cooled exhaust system.
When they said they’d adapted it for the boat market, I was wondering exactly the same thing – how did they make a wideband O2 sensor live in a water cooled exhaust?
